We're in for a little bit of snow and sleet in areas west and north of the DC Metro.

A storm system coming from the Tennessee Valley will throw moisture our way and there is just enough cold air to produce some snow and sleet.

While Gaithersburg may see some minor accumulations, the odds of an inch or so go up as you head into the higher elevations of Montgomery county and north into Frederick.

In Virginia, the snow could be an inch deep by tonight across parts of the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia, especially west of US-15.

Out west, in Western MD & West Virginia, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until midnight for 1"-2" of snow/sleet.

Most of the accumulations will likely be on grassy surfaces, but with sunset at 4:52 PM in DC, a few road surfaces could get slick this evening.

I expect the bulk of the rain/sleet/snow to be over by midnight.

Christmas will be dry and mild, 45-50, but look for more rain and mountain snows by Wednesday.
