When all is said and done this July was not that hot. The average high temperature was 88.2 a bit below the July average of 88.5. Want to feel good ? The average high last July was 93.1, making that July the second hottest July on record. The average temperature (including the high and low) for July 2013 was 81.2, a bit above the July average of 80.0 degrees. The reason this number is a bit over the average is that we had several high low temperatures. In fact, from the sixteenth through the twentieth National never fell below eighty degrees at night. We never recorded a triple digit high. Our highest temp was 96 on the eighteenth. We should contrast that with last July. July 2012 set a record for number of days with highs 100/+ at seven, four of those were consecutive. We recorded nine days 90 degrees or + compared to twenty two days last July.
We came off the fourth wettest June on record (9.97") but July was just a bit above average in terms of precipitation, clocking in with 4.43". Average July precipitation at National is 3.80". It was significantly wetter west of Town. Dulles recorded over seven inches. Average for Dulles is 3.57".
We will begin August on a relatively cool note but heat will build again late next week.
