Eugenie Bouchard won their quarterfinal matches at the Australian Open on
Li, a two-time runner-up at this event, had little problems in a 6-2, 6-2
victory over 28th-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta in a match that lasted just
Li, a former French Open champion, lost to Victoria Azarenka in the 2013 final
and to Kim Clijsters in 2011.
Canada's Bouchard took down 14th-seeded Serbian Ana Ivanovic 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 to
move to the semifinals in her first time at the season's first major.
Ivanovic had defeated world No. 1 Serena Williams on Sunday to advance to the
quarterfinals and had won a title in Auckland to start the season.
Two-time defending champion Victoria Azarenka, seeded second, will take on
fifth-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska in a high-powered quarterfinal match on
Wednesday, with the other quarterfinal pitting 11th-seeded Romanian Simona
Halep against 20th-seeded Slovak Dominika Cibulkova. Cibulkova had pulled a
big upset in the previous round by defeating third-seeded Maria Sharapova.
