Melbourne, Australia (Sports Network) - Seventh-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and unranked compatriot Jeremy Chardy both advanced to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open on Monday.

The 2008 Australian Open runner-up Tsonga defeated fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at Rod Laver Arena to advance to his fourth Australian Open quarterfinal.

Awaiting Tsonga in the round of eight will be the winner between second-seeded Swiss star Roger Federer and 13th-seeded Canadian slugger Milos Raonic, who will face off later on Monday.

Chardy, meanwhile, continued his stellar play at the Aussie Open, knocking off his third straight ranked player en route to his first career Grand Slam quarterfinal.

After disposing of sixth-seeded Juan Martin Del Potro on Saturday, the 25- year-old Chardy knocked off 21st-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

For a place in the semifinals, Chardy will play the winner between third- seeded Andy Murray and 14th-seeded compatriot Gilles Simon, who are currently in action.
