Vienna, Austria (Sports Network) - Dutch slugger Robin Haase came up a first- round loser Monday at the Erste Bank Open.

The sixth-seeded Haase was humbled by Aussie Marinko Matosevic, who came from behind for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory on the indoor hardcourts at Wiener Stadthalle.

Also on Day 1 in Vienna, Luxembourg's Gilles Muller fought back to beat Belgian Steve Darcis 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-3. Muller launched 16 aces in the 2- hour, 28-minute affair.

The top seeds this week are Argentine star Juan Martin del Potro and Serb Janko Tipsarevic. The former U.S. Open champion del Potro was last year's Vienna runner-up to Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who is not defending his title this year.

The newest Vienna titlist will pocket $113,795.
