Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Orlando City SC have landed their second
player in preparation for their 2015 MLS debut after completing a deal with
Real Salt Lake on Wednesday to acquire midfielder Yordany Alvarez.
Alvarez, 28, played for Orlando City in 2011 and helped lead the Lions to
their first USL Pro title while also claiming the league MVP award.
In exchange for Alvarez, Orlando City gave up a fourth round selection in the
2017 MLS SuperDraft. Alvarez will be on loan from RSL in 2014, playing for
Orlando City in the final USL Pro campaign.
"We're obviously delighted to have Yordany back," Orlando City head coach
Adrian Heath said. "We have an MLS-caliber player returning to us. I'm really
excited to have him with us again and looking forward to the future with him
on the squad."
He has appeared in 38 career regular-season games for RSL and two in the
postseason, including one in the first leg of the team's Western Conference
semifinals series against the Los Angeles Galaxy last November.
Alvarez joins Kevin Molino as the clubs first MLS acquisitions for the 2015
"I'm excited to be back in Orlando," Alvarez said. "Orlando City has a special
place in my heart for giving me a chance."
