Bridgeview, IL (Sports Network) - The United States women's national team saw
its 14-game winning streak snapped on Saturday as the side was held to a 1-1
draw by Germany in a friendly.
The match pitted the top two teams in the world and was the first for the U.S.
since the departure of head coach Pia Sundhage.
Abby Wambach got things started quickly for the Americans when she turned home
an Alex Morgan cross after only two minutes.
But Germany responded in the 14th with Simone Laudehr chipping a ball over the
top to Anja Mittag, who beat a pair of defenders before lobbing the ball over
goalkeeper Hope Solo.
The two teams will square off once again on Tuesday.
