Clarksville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Horton recorded a double-double
with 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Austin Peay Governors coasted to an
81-68 decision over the Tennesse-Martin Skyhawks in Ohio Valley Conference
action at the Dunn Center.
Zavion Williams provided a spark off the bench for APSU (7-8, 1-0 OVC) with 16
points and seven assists while Travis Betran tallied 15 points. Damarius Smith
scored 11 points and handed out six assists.
UTM (5-12, 0-2) came up short despite a stellar showing by Myles Taylor, who
finished with 19 points and 14 boards. Justin Childs contributed 14 points,
Terence Smith scored 11 points and Dee Oldham provided 10 points to go along
with six rebounds off the bench. Marshun Newell also played a key role as a
reserve with seven assists in 27 minutes.
The Governors took a 39-30 lead into the break after they shot 45.7 percent
from the field including 4-of-11 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes
of the contest. UTM fell behind as it was limited to 35.5 percent efficiency
from the floor in the first period.
Although the Skyhawks improved to connect on 40 percent of their field goal
tries after the break, APSU stayed in front as it sank 58.3 percent of its
shots from the floor and also 10-of-18 at the free-throw line.
APSU overcame a 13-of-26 performance at the free-throw line to pick up the
double-digit decision. The Skyhawks finished the contest with a 43-37 edge in
