Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - Shayne Whittington had 14 points and seven
rebounds, as the Western Michigan Broncos upended the Pacific Tigers, 67-62,
in a BracketBuster matchup at University Arena.
Darius Paul chipped in with 13 points and six boards for the Broncos (17-9),
who entered the weekend tied with Toledo for the top spot in the MAC West
Division standings. Brandon Pokley and David Brown scored 11 apiece in the
Tony Gill had a game-high 18 points off the bench for the Tigers (15-12).
Lorenzo McCloud added 15 points and Sama Taku scored 10 in the loss.
WMU jumped out to an early 9-2 lead, its largest of the game. The Broncos went
on to shoot a healthy 56.5 percent from the floor in the opening frame,
although they led by only a 33-29 margin at the break.
The Broncos kept up the defensive pressure in the second stanza, as they held
Pacific to 36.7-percent shooting from the floor to seal the win.
The Tigers shot just 11-of-30 from the floor in both halves, and they also
finished the game 11-of-30 from beyond the arc.
