Evansville, IN (Sports Network) - Led by a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds
from Doug McDermott, the Creighton Bluejays took down the Evansville Purple
Aces, 71-68, in a Missouri Valley Conference battle at the Ford Center.
Austin Chatman added 12 points for the Bluejays (21-6, 10-5 MVC), who halted
their season-long three-game losing streak.
Ned Cox led the Purple Aces (14-13, 7-8) with 18 points, while Colt Ryan
finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 assists, although he put
together a woeful afternoon from the field (3-of-18). Adam Wing chipped in
with 10 points as Evansville lost for the fourth time in its last five games.
Evansville shot 45.2 percent from the field and knocked down 6-of-13 from 3-
point range in the first half, as it went into halftime leading, 36-31.
Creighton kept the game close by hitting on 45.8 percent of its shots,
including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc..
Creighton came out of the break with the hot hand, making 59.1 percent of
its field goal tries after intermission, while the Purple Aces struggled from
the floor after halftime (.345). The Bluejays opened the second half on a 13-4
run to go up four. The Purple Aces responded with six unanswered points, which
was followed by five straight by the Bluejays, giving them the lead for good
as they handed the Purple Aces their first home loss in conference play.
Creighton outscored Evansville in the paint, 26-20. The Purple Aces had a
significant edge on the boards, 37-25.
