Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - A pair of free throws by Josh Crittle with 16
seconds remaining helped the Illinois-Chicago Flames to grab a 60-57 win over
the Green Bay Phoenix in Horizon League play at UIC Pavilion.
Crittle finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, connecting on all but two
of his 11 chances at the charity stripe for the Flames (14-8, 5-4 HL) as they
won for the fourth time in the last five outings. Hayden Humes registered 18
points and nine boards, followed by Gary Talton with 10 points, although he
shot just 3-of-10 from the floor on the night.
Green Bay (11-11, 5-4) was paced by Keifer Sykes with 18 points, while Brennan
Cougill chipped in 11 points and Greg Mays 10 off the bench as the squad bowed
for the second time in the last three contests.
Despite shooting just 39.3 percent from the field in the first half, including
2-of-9 behind the 3-point line, the Flames were able to move out to a 28-26
advantage at the break.
In the second half the Phoenix kept things interesting with 52.2 percent
accuracy from the field, but Crittle made sure that the hosts survived.
Green Bay was credited with just six offensive rebounds and turned the ball
over 16 times in the meeting.
