WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man is charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and malicious wounding after a stabbing on Friday.
According to Prince William County Police, at 2:16 a.m. a 41 year old man of Woodbridge reported to police that he had a verbal altercation with, Joel Alberto Melendez Veliz, a known acquaintance. The altercation escalated to a physical encounter and the victim said Melendez Veliz stabbed him in the arm.
The victim left the location on Granby Road and called police. Police say he suffered a non-life threatening stab wound to the arm.
Police encountered Melendez Veliz back on Granby Road. Officials say he became agitated, aggressive and pushed an officer. Then, according to police, Melendez Veliz refused to comply when he was told he was under arrest. Once he was taken outside the home, police say he became compliant and was arrested without further incident.
He has a court date set for February 5, 2014.
