The first official photos of little Prince George have leaked a day early -- and they break from tradition in a big way.
According to a palace spokesperson, the first portraits of Prince William, Duchess Kate and the little prince were taken by his grandfather, Michael Middleton, in a backyard setting (you can see the leaked shots here). The casual photos are a big departure for the royal family, who have in the past hired professional photographers for the first official shots of new additions to the family.
Even Lupo, the couple's black cocker spaniel, makes an appearance in one shot, tongue wagging, as does Tilly, a Middleton family retriever.
The intimate photographs were shot earlier this month in the garden of the Middletons' family home in rural Bucklebury, west of London. Baby George is asleep in them, held by Kate, who wears a maroon dress.
"He's a little bit of a rascal, I'll put it that way," Prince William told CNN in an interview on Monday. "He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I'm not sure, but he's doing very well at the moment."
"He wriggles around quite a lot," he continued. "And he doesn't want to go to sleep that much, which is a little bit of a problem."
