(WUSA9) -- Police say an off-duty officer saw a man flee from the scene of a shooting on Wednesday night. It lead to a barricade situation and a car chase.
Police say the officer heard a gunshot that was fired when a suspect attempted to rob a juvenile in the 300 block of 34th St SE at approximately 9 p.m. The juvenile was shot in the arm, say police, and the officer encountered a man with an AK-47. Police say the officer gave the suspect a command, but the suspect turned on the officer with weapon in hand. The officer feared for his life, and fired at the suspect armed with the AK-47, say police.
The suspect dropped the weapon and fled into nearby building, which led to a barricade situation, say police.
Police say a later search turned up nothing.
The off-duty officer gave a lookout for an SUV, which was spotted in the 3900 Minnesota Ave a short time later. Police say SUV fled after police attempted to stop it.
According to police, two weapons were thrown from vehicle during chase. The vehicle crashed at Minnesota and Eastern Avenue, where all 3 bailed out and a foot chase ensued, say police. One person was arrested in DC while two others were grabbed by police.
