WASHINGTON (WUSA) - A D.C. ambulance apparently caught on fire Friday night.

A spokesperson says around 10 p.m., Ambulance 27 and its crew of two had delivered a patient to Washington Hospital Center.

They were finishing up paperwork and ready to head back out when they noticed something wrong with the unit: flames on the vehicle.

We're told an extinguisher from nearby Ambulance 18 was used to put the fire out. No one was hurt.

27 is out of service. According to authorities, the cause and the extent of damage are under investigation.

The spokesperson adds there are 39 other ambulances in service. A tweet from the fire union's account said electrical repairs were made to 27.
