WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A tweet from DC Councilmember Yvette Alexander confirms that Walmart will not put two stores in D.C.

Councilmember Alexander tweeted on Tuesday: "It's official, Walmart is pulling out of Skyland and Capital Gateway!#lraa"

Tuesday, Washington City Paper quoted Alexander as saying..."Walmart is pulling out of Skyland and Capitol Gateway, and I'm pissed off..."

According to the City Paper, Alexander said Walmart representatives visited her office to deliver the news.

The Washington Post on Tuesday published an opinion article by Alex Barron, a regional general manager for Wal-Mart U.S., called "Wal-Mart: The D.C. Council has forced our hand." Barron alleges that "...some Council members are now advancing an 11th hour effort to undermine our efforts and change the way businesses like Wal-Mart must operate in the city. New legislation - the Large Retailer Accountability Act (LRAA) - requires that a few large employers pay a start rate more than $5 per hour higher than the minimum wage."
