Car Stolen In Va. Found On Fire In Md.

HELEN, Md. (WUSA9) -- A car that was reported stolen in Virginia was later found on fire in Md., according to authorities in St. Mary's County.

According to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, Wednesday night a resident in the 38900 block of Chaptico Road in Helen discovered a 2004 Nissan Sentra on fire. Firefighters responded at approximately 11 p.m. and put the fire out in about 10 minutes, say authorities. The fire left $2500 worth of damage, according to authorities.

The fire marshal has determined the fire was intentionally set inside the vehicle.

St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation, say authorities. Anyone with information about the fire or who witnessed the fire is asked to call the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, Southern Region at 443-550-6834.
