WASHINGTON (WUSA9)-- A 17-year-old female is wounded in both legs and her chest. A 20-year-old male is shot in the same incident in the face. Both were victims of several overnight shootings in DC.
The two victims mentioned above will live; but in canvassing the area around Benning Road and G Street in Southeast, we couldn't find a single person who had heard about the shootings or seemed alarmed at the news that two young people had been nearly killed.
"It happens a lot around here," said one young woman who insisted we not reveal her name.
Same for an older female who explained, "My son was killed-shot with a sawed off shot gun."
They both live in the Benning Gardens apartments, a four-building complex located at the corner of Benning and G SE, within several feet of the early morning shootings.
Residents complained about the teenagers who hang around with nothing to do but "smoke." They said they could use a playground for the children, regular trash pickup, and maybe a maintenance crew to make some much needed repairs.
Everyone wanted to live somewhere else but had nowhere else to go and no means to get there.
