(WUSA9) -- Thursday, WUSA 9 spoke to Maryland State Sen. Rob Garagiola, who confirms he is resigning on September 1.
Sen. Garagiola says he is leaving office to spend more time with his three children.
Garagiola was elected to the Maryland Senate in 2002 and has been majority leader since 2011.
The Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee will choose a replacement and give the name to the governor to make it official.
