(USA TODAY) -- Robert Griffin III's mother told a Washington, D.C., news station that her son will be getting married this summer to Rebecca Liddicoat.
Naturally, the fine folks at the DC Sports Bog went looking to see if RGIII had set a wedding date and stumbled upon a Bed, Bath & Beyond registry in the couple's name
Since the Bog linked to the registry, a number of products have been purchased, leading to speculation that fans are buying RGIII wedding gifts. That's not unprecedented - other athlete's registries have led to similar gestures. (What's the motivation for these people? Is it truly goodwill or is the desire to tell people you bought a gift for RGIII the key motive?)
We have no idea whether the registry is legit. Ordinarily, we'd be suspicious of an athlete with such inexpensive tastes, but it sort of fits in with the image of a down-to-earth RGIII.
Some registry thoughts:
• It lists two slow cookers. A 4-quart one for everyday use and a 7-quart model for when Fred Davis and Trent Williams come over for dinner.
• That non-stick panini press will never be used.
• Not only does a jerky maker exist, but RGIII has registered for it. (Most people use it to dry fruit, apparently.)
• Dan Snyder is probably going to be at the wedding, right? That reason alone means you shouldn't be putting a $250 knife set on the registry. Go for the $1,000 Henckels. Then again, Snyder's probably just going to give the couple a painting of himself and some coupons to Six Flags.
A page on The Knot has July 6 as the wedding day, which would give the newlyweds plenty of time for a honeymoon before the Redskins open training camp on July 25.
Griffin proposed to Liddicoat in 2011. He popped the question on the football field at Baylor's indoor practice facility, hours after a 404-yard, four-touchdown performance against Kansas State.
