WASHINGTON (WUSA9)-- Following a report on WUSA9 the DC Public Works (DPW) Department on Wednesday, sent a team of people to an apartment building in Southeast to collect and haul away nearly eight tons of trash.
The garbage behind 5348 Call Place had been piling up behind a multi-unit building for several months. The landlord had already been billed more than $16,000 dollars by the city for prior infractions.
Eight DPW workers spent a good part of Wednesday using a front loader, rakes and shovels to fill a dumpster and several garbage trucks.
William Howland, Director of DPW, says it is the landlords responsibility to hire a private contractor to haul away the trash and recyclables.
The DC government can place a lien against the property until the city is reimbursed for cleaning the debris.
