WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - A D.C. man who pleaded guilty two sexual assaults against a 14-year-old girl and woman has been sentenced to 23 years in prison, according to U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr.
Machen says 39-year-old Antony Lamont Burns of D.C. pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree child sexual abuse and attempted first-degree sexual abuse on April 26 in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The judge approved the plea calling for a sentence of 23 years in prison, and sentenced Burns immediately. Machen says Burns will be placed on five years of supervised release after his prison term is completed. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, according to Machen.
According to the government's evidence, a 14-year-old girl was walking in the 4300 block of Iowa Avenue NW at about 10 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2003 when a man grabbed her by the neck and placed a knife to her chest. He told the girl that if she yelled, he would stab her in the heart. He then forced her into his vehicle and made her perform sexual acts against her will. When he finished, he drove the teenager back to where he had abducted her, let her get out and he left. The teen immediately ran home and reported the assault to her family. Her family then contacted police.
The man's semen was found on the girl's underwear, and DNA analysis tied Burns to the crime after he was convicted in 2010 of a separate felony, according to officials.
DNA evidence also linked Burns to a second attack, which took place in 2006. A woman was walking in the 6400 block of Georgia Avenue NW on April 29, 2006 at about 5:45 a.m., say officials, when a stranger approached her with a knife and demanded money. The woman told him she had no money but the man forced her to the back of a building in the 5400 block of Georgia Avenue, made her lay down in a bed of mulch and raped her. He then ordered her to walk toward Georgia Avenue NW. She ran to a gas station and reported that she had just been raped by a stranger at knifepoint. Semen recovered from the victim was linked to Anthony Burns via DNA analysis.
