FAUQUIER CO., Va. (WUSA9) -- The biggest concentration of outages in Northern Virginia is in Fauquier County.

The number as of Thursday afternoon was nearly 1400 outages.

200 of those customers are just north of Warrenton where a big tree fell on some power lines.

It took out power to the Gates family. Rosemarie usually needs oxygen at night but

took the risk of staying in her home last night without power as temperatures outside dipped below freezing.

Her daughter says, "I had the neighbors check on her and she was okay. She had on layers."

A large crews is working to get power restored in the area. It's a complicated job, one that they had to bring a bulldozer in to make a path and tow a bucket truck up the muddy hill.

Brian Paap wasn't going to let his family suffer through the cold.

"We stayed in a hotel, because it's a little too cold for a 3 and 5 year old."

While the district was spared, people had a tough time just 30 miles west on 66, places such as Warrenton and the Plains were hit hard by yesterday's snow storm.

Folks were sliding off the highway and having to dig out.

Dominion Power has 4700 people system wide working on outages. 500 of them are from out of state.

Many of them have been diverted west of the District to Charlottsville and the Shenandoah Valley where the storm dumped 20 plus inches in some places.

A big team has been reserved to helping a couple hundred customers where the Gates family lives.

Paap, "It's treacherous, wouldn't want to be doing this."

Gates, "We had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Greek salad for dinner"

Dominion Power is hoping to get most of Fauquier County restored by Thursday night and the rest of the state by Friday night.

The utility company will keep the out of state crews until there's full restoration.
