WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA)-- With snow fall expected in the Washington area now is a good time to issue a friendly reminder of the dangers you may come across. Luckily, we've narrowed it down to 3 tips that will keep you and your family safe while driving on ice covered roads.

John Townsend from the AAA said , "Most people who are injured in snow storms are injured when their car flies off the road or skids off the road."

Based on Townsend's comment we spoke to Mar Roble a tire expert who said the first thing drivers need to be aware of is the tire tread. If the tire's are bald have little tread you can expect to slip and slide.

Roble said drivers should be "looking at how much depth there is on the tire." He added, "you don't want to be driving around in the snow on tires that have no life expectancies."

The second tip according to Roble is to make sure the tires are properly inflated. He advises always following the tire pressure recommendation that listed on the inside frame of most drivers side doors.

Lastly, Roble said always make sure the tires on your car are the proper ones for the season. In other words summer tires won't work well during the winter. He suggests having all season tires on at all times.
