CHICAGO (WUSA) -- More than 200 firefighters battled a five-alarm fire at an abandoned warehouse in Chicago, Illinois from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning -- in single digit temperatures. CBS Chicago reported that the "brutal cold turned spray from firefighters' hoses into snow, showering crews as they fought to keep the flames from spreading to other buildings" in the 3700 block of S. Ashland Avenue. Sheets of ice formed on the walls of the warehouse and the street.

It was also reportedly the coldest weather in nearly two years, and according to CBS Chicago, "the site of the biggest blaze in Chicago in about seven years, was still smoldering on Wednesday afternoon, more than 19 hours after the fire started."

We are told much of the warehouse collapsed during the fire.
