ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WUSA) -- An Annapolis woman is behind bars for her connection to a murder-for-hire plot, authorities said.

According to Anne Arundel County Police, 47-year-old Cynthia Lisa Mills was having an affair with Wendell Mansel, who was arrested in August 2012 for attempting to hire an undercover officer to kill his wife.

During the investigation, police learned that Mills helped plan and provided some of the money used to hire the officer who posed as a "hitman," police said.

Earlier in 2012, Mansel approached a Leesburg, Va. man while looking to hire a contract killer. The Leesburg man contacted police and an immediate investigation launched.

Cynthia Mills is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, solicitation of murder, and attempted first-degree murder. She is being held without bond.
