BOWIE, Md. (WUSA) -- A Prince George's County fire spokesperson says that four children initially thought to be trapped inside a house fire in Bowie were okay and in another location with their mother.
According to Mark Brady, a father that lived at the house in the 12500 block of Knowledge Lane arrived at the fire at the same time as firefighters at approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. He did not know that his wife had taken the four children to another location and told firefighters his children may be trapped inside.
Firefighters began an intensive search but the father later learned after talking to family that the children were at another location.
Firefighters did find the family's pet dog and were able to rescue it safely from the home.
According to Brady, a fire in a second floor closet spread to the attic. The fire was quickly put out but there is a fire loss of approximately $20,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
