MOUNT VERNON, Va. (WUSA) -- Fairfax County Fire and Rescue officials say that 7 people have been displaced after a house fire in Mount Vernon on Thursday afternoon. The family's pets, two birds and a chinchilla, died in the fire.

Firefighters responded to the home at 4105 Fielding Street at approximately 3:10 p.m. to see heavy smoke and fire come from the front and back of the house. Fire officials say the firefighters had to work their way around a downed live power line near the home's driveway but were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes.

The family was not injured in the fire.

The damage from the fire is estimated at $225,000. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
