WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A man pleaded guilty on Tuesday in DC Superior Court to two misdemeanor charges of cruelty to animals, according to the Washington Humane Society.

We reported in September that Eric Felipe Gaskin was arrested for allegedly declawing two eight-week-old kittens named Simba and Pumba in early May. In September, we were told that their claws had been ripped from the kittens' feet and "most of the bones in each foot were crushed, including each of the kittens' four legs." The breaks may have happened when the kittens tried to escape

The kittens' paws became infected and they couldn't walk. They had to be euthanized due to their severe injuries, say authorities.

Gaskin will be sentenced in January 2013. He faces up to 180 days in jail and a $250 fine for each charge as well as a fee between $50 and $250 for a victim fund.
