Clayton, MO (KSDK) -- The stepfather of a young boy who drowned in the Meramec River earlier this summer has entered the Hyland Behavioral Health Center.

Todd Combs, 42 of Affton, is facing seven counts of child endangerment after police say he provided alcoholic beverages to his son, 12 year old Christopher Marks who later drowned in the river near the Palisades recreational area in Pacific.

The other charges Combs faces are related to other minors who were also supplied the alcohol. Combs was slated to be in court Thursday, however that was postponed until next month while Combs is undergoing treatment at the facility.

Christopher disappeared later that day after telling family members he was going to swing on a rope extending over the river.

Search and rescue crews initiated a massive search for the boy in the following days. Authorities say Combs later discovered the body of his son several miles downstream while searching for the child.
