BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- A woman who was taken into custody after ramming her car into a vehicle at the entrance of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda and then fleeing from officers will remain in jail pending a psychiatric evaluation.

During a bond review on Wednesday afternoon, a judge ordered that 27-year-old Angela Akosua Cobbold of Manassas, Va. be held without bond pending an evaluation. Her next bond hearing is scheduled for  next Wednesday.

In court, we learned that Cobbold was released from a psychiatric facility last Friday and that her family tried to have her recommitted to the facility before Tuesday's incident.

Cobbald is charged with first degree assault.

According to police, the incident began when Virginia State Police spotted Cobbold going 93 mph on Interstate 66. When Cobbold crossed the state line Virginia Police put a look out for her.

Police say a car believed to be Cobbold's approached the Walter Reed entrance and made a u-turn in front of the guard booth causing property damage. When security tried to approach her, Cobbold took off on Wisconsin Ave.

Soon after, police say she made another u-turn, headed north and approached the Walter Reed entrance again. Cobbold gets trapped in the entrance traffic when a Naval Security Officer approached her window to question her.

At some point, the officer breaks her window with his baton, after Cobbold allegedly struck a cruiser, police say. The naval officer fires at the car when Cobbold took off but does not hit her.

Police say she began heading northbound on Wisconsin Ave. on the southbound lanes. Eventually she crashed into Nebel Street near Nicholson Lane in Bethesda.

Police believe Cobbold was eating a bar of soap.

Sky 9 captured video of police pulling her from the car and then taking her into custody.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
