FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) - The Fairfax County Police Department and Prince William County Police Department collaborated in an operation which resulted in the arresting dozens and charging 101 people.

Early in the year, law enforcement identified problem areas and people involved in criminal areas in the above mentioned counties. After an extensive investigation, arrests were made for criminal charges including possession of stolen property and attempted murder-for-hire.

"We are a proactive unit and decided to create an opportunity through a sustained enforcement effort, using non-traditional investigative methods, to seek long-term solutions to attacking crime and to address quality of life issues," said Fairfax County Police Captain John Piper, Commander of the Criminal Intelligence Division.

In addition to the arrests and 168 charges, officers seized $560,000, 23 guns, two ballistic vests, narcotics (prescription and non-prescription), and various stolen goods including jewelry, electronics, credit cards, and tools.

Fairfax County launched a campaign dubbed "if you see something, say something," which urges citizens to get involved in the war on crime.
