WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- 9News reporter Bruce Johnson says former DC council chairman Kwame Brown reported to court on Tuesday morning to explain why he hasn't been checking in once a week with the court.

Kwame Brown had failed to report by phone to pre-trial sentencing three times, reports Bruce Johnson. As you may remember, the weekly check-ins were a condition of Brown's release after he was convicted of bank fraud.

The judge gave Brown an 11 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. curfew. He told Brown his apology was too late.

Johnson reports that Brown apparently left the courthouse by cab, avoiding reporters. His attorney Fred Cooke did not make any remarks.

See the above video for Johnson's full report.
