COLMAR MANOR, Md. (WUSA) -- Prince George's County police say they have arrested another man for the baseball bat attack and attempted robbery of an elderly man in Colmar Manor in September. They now say the first man they suspected in the attack is no longer believed to be involved in the attack. He has been released from custody.

Now, they believe 20-year-old Edwin Manuel Gonzalez may have assaulted the 72-year-old man in the 3800 block of Bladensburg Road on the morning of September 15. Gonzalez was taken into custody September 28th.

The victim had originally identified a Mount Rainier man as his attacker, but police say investigators later received additional information from the community that lead to the arrest of Gonzalez.

Police say their investigation revealed the 72-year-old man was waiting at a bus stop when he was approached by a man who pulled out a knife and demanded his wallet. The older man refused and the other man walked away but later came back with an aluminum baseball bat. The younger man began attacking the 72-year-old. A good Samaritan passed by and yelled for the attacker to stop. That's when the attacker ran away, according to police. The 72-year-old suffered severe injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Police released a sketch of the suspect which lead to the first arrest.

Gonzalez is charged with attempted first and second degree murder, first degree assault, two counts of attempted armed robbery and other charges. He is being held without bond.
