(WUSA) -- A driver has been charged with reckless driving after a motorcyclist died in a crash at Route 50 and Route 751 in Frederick County on Wednesday night.
According to Virginia state Police, a trooper responded to the scene at approximately 8:09 p.m. According to police, a 2002 Subaru Forester was heading westbound on Route 50 and about to make a left turn onto Route 751, when it pulled in front of a motorcycle that was headed eastbound.
The motorcycle tried to avoid the car, but the two vehicles collided and the two people on the motorcycle were tossed from it.
Thirty-six-year-old Dmitriy Y. Medvedev of Washington, D.C. was driving the motorcycle. He died at the scene. The woman who was also on the motorcycle, 29-year-old Casandra M. Strafer of D.C., was treated for serious, but non life-threatening injuries at the hospital. Police say Medvedev and Strafer were wearing helmets.
Seventy-four-year-old Alphonso F. Hawkins of Gore, Va. was driving the Suburu. He was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash.
Hawkins is charged with reckless driving.
