WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- D.C. firefighters were called to the scene of a reported electrical meter explosion on Wednesday morning but when they arrived, they called police for a possible home invasion at the same location.
We are told that one or more would-be-burglars tried to use a device to disable the electrical system and get into the house in the 3600 block of 35th Street in NW. The homeowner told 9News that he was home writing when the lights suddenly flickered and went out. When he went downstairs to investigate, he discovered that someone had tried to pry open or kick in his door.
Police have classified the incident as a destruction of property.
A police spokesman confirmed that someone had tried to pry the electrical meter off the wall of the home.
Authorities are continuing to investigate and we will update this story as soon as more information is available.
