WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Apple executives unveiled the new iPhone 5 on Wednesday at an event in San Francisco, California.
Apple CEO Tim Cook and Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller spoke at the event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Apple officials say the iPhone will be in U.S. stores on September 21. Pre-orders will begin on Friday, the Associated Press reports.
According to AP, the iPhone 5 is thinner, lighter and has a taller screen than the previous version. AP says the phone will being at $199 with a two-year phone contract in the U.S. The iPhone 4S price will be reduced to $99 for people who sign a new contract. The iPhoen 4 will be free.
