WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)--Pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been shut down for the season by the Washington Nationals effective immediately.

Washington Nationals Manager Davey Johnson said he made the decision and that he told Strasburg Saturday morning.

In his first full season for the Nationals, Strasburg finishes with a 15-6 record and a 3.16 ERA.  He had 197 strikeouts pitching in 159 and 1/3 innings.

Strasburg was supposed to make one more start but Johnson said all of the attention being given to Starsburg's imminent shut down played a role in the decision.
