ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WUSA) -- The brutal stabbing of a man on the 3300 block of Wilson Blvd. in Arlington County on Thursday is now adding to mounting concerns of what appears to be a spike in violent crimes in that area.

Police say a man was stabbed Thursday afternoon after confronting another man who was breaking into his car. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is said to be recovering while police searched for the stabbing suspect.

The bloody attack comes after a string of 4 murders in the county. Arlington County had not recorded any homicides in more than two years, and now they've had a handful in just over two weeks.

Arlington County Police Chief Doug Scott, said they are well aware of the numbers.

"It's very concerning for us. We've had multiple incidents now," Chief Scott said.

He also told reporters on Thursday that none of the murders or the stabbings seem to have any link. They're all isolated cases, he said.

He added, "two of those homicides are closed, and the one that happened just a couple days ago we have some promising leads on those, and hopefully we can bring the suspect to justice."

Meanwhile residents in Arlington County are still worried that there will be more violent crimes in the future of Arlington County streets.

Khurram Shahzad who lives and works in the are of Thursday's stabbing says he is concerned from what he has been seeing and hearing around his neighborhood.

"I think it's a safe place, but the last two, three weeks. I don't know what's going on," Shahzad said.

Police still need the public help in finding Thursday's stabbing suspect. If anyone has information they are being asked to call Arlington County Police.
