UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA) - A police impersonator was arrested after pulling over a real police officer in Prince George's County on Wednesday, police said.

Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni, 29, of the 900 block of Eastham Court, Crofton, was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer.

"The Capitol Heights police officer identified himself, and the suspect said that he was a military police officer from Louisiana. The suspect then told the Capitol Heights officer that he was speeding. The Capitol Heights officer told Mastrogiovanni that he had no jurisdiction, and that having blue and red emergency equipment in his truck was illegal in Maryland. The suspect then left the scene. The Capitol Heights officer contacted Prince George's County police and followed the suspect until the county police arrived," police said.

Mastrogiovanni was driving a white pickup truck on southbound Route 301 when he performed a traffic stop on a Capitol Heights Police Officer who was in his personal vehicle at southbound Route 301 and Trade Zone Avenue.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Mastrogiovanni is asked to contact the Prince George's County Police Department at (301) 856-3130, or Crime Solvers at 1-866-411 TIPS (8477).
