WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The pressure is on DC Council Chairman Kwame Brown after reports that federal prosecutors may be just hours or days away from filing charges against him.

He's ignoring questions about whether he'll resign and whether he's met with lawyers in the US Attorney's office. And he said he knows nothing about reports that he might be charged with fraud.

But the pressure may be getting to him. He shoved a WTOP reporter on Tuesday after being asked about a WUSA 9's Bruce Johnson's report about a federal investigation against him.

WTOP says Mark Segraves was waiting with other reporters in the anteroom between Brown's office and the council chamber and saw Brown leave his office to go to the chamber. Segraves asked about federal investigators revealing parts of their case against the chairman. According to WTOP, Brown initially said "no questions" but when he received more questions, he pushed Segraves in the chest and against the wall.

Prosecutors have been investigating for a year whether DC's second highest elected official benefited from $239,000 in campaign funds that were steered to his brother's campaign firm. He was mired in as much as $700,000 in personal debt at around that time. And he demanded that the city lease him a fully-loaded Lincoln SUV when he took office.

He told reporters late in the afternoon Tuesday that all the questions about his 2008 campaign were a "distraction," and that he did not break any laws.

Mark Segraves tweeted about his encounter with Brown.

just smiled and winked at me from the podium. Just minutes after pushing me against a wall.

And WTOP has posted audio of the encounter, which you can download here. In the audio you can hear:

"Chairman Brown, a quick question for you before you go in.."

"No questions..."

"...Sir, you don't have to push me..."

WTOP reports that Brown also asked his staff to remove Segraves but later "winked and smiled" to Segraves in the chamber.
