Culpeper Police Investigate Shooting into a Car

CULPEPER, Va. (WUSA) - Culpeper Police are investigating a late afternoon shooting on Friday in which a car was struck several times by gunshots fired from another vehicle. No one was injured in the incident.

Police and Culpeper County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shots fired call about 4:15 p.m. in the area of Monticello Avenue and First Street. Police believe three to four people may have been in the vehicle from which the shots were fired and two people in the one struck by gunfire.

About 6 p.m., sheriff's deputies located the victim's vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu, in the Shanktown area of Culpeper County after receiving a tip on its location. The vehicle had several bullet holes.

Culpeper police detectives are processing the vehicle for evidence at this hour.

Police are looking for a possible suspect vehicle believed to be a gray Chrysler 300 four-door sedan.

Police do not believe the shooting incident is a random act.

"We believe that the people involved may be familiar with each other," said Detective Sgt. Wayne Hickman.
