Giant Alerts Customers To Gelato Recall

LANDOVER, Md. (WUSA) - Giant Food, following a recall by manufacturer Talenti, announced Monday that it has removed sale chocolate peanut butter cup gelato from its shelves due to possible salmonella contamination in the peanut butter.

All sell by dates of the following product are included in this recall:
• Talenti Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Gelato, UPC 18685200094, 16 oz.

Giant  has received no reports of illnesses associated with eating the gelato. Those who have bought it should discard any unused portions and bring their receipts to Giant for a full refund.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

The most common signs of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms: chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.
