Tween Metal Jewelry Recalled

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- They are shiny and pretty, but some tarnished trinkets sold to tweens are being recalled because of cadmium concerns.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling 137,000 bracelets, necklaces and earrings over concerns about high levels of the heavy metal.

Cadmium is a heavy metal that can poison children and cause other serious health effects, if ingested.

RECALLED JEWELRY: SEE THE 19 DIFFERENT STYLES

Name of product: Metal Necklaces, Bracelets and Earrings

Importer/Distributor: Tween Brands Inc., of Albany, Ohio

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Description: Involves 19 different styles of children's jewelry. Shapes and styles can vary. But, include, hearts, heart locks, butterflies, cupcakes, peace signs and crowns. Some of the jewelry contains the words "best" or "friends" or "forever" or "BFF."

Sold at: Justice and Limited Too stores from November 2008 through February 2010.

Remedy: Take recalled jewelry away immediately and return it to the retailers for a full refund.

Under federal law, it is illegal to attempt to sell or re-sell any recalled product.
