CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch are sharing the stage for the first time in their race for the state's vacant 1st Congressional District seat.
The two meet Monday evening at The Citadel in a debate sponsored by the Patch news service, the South Carolina Radio Network and Charleston television station WCBD. The event is being cablecast on C-SPAN and being streamed online.
The candidates have two appearances together Tuesday, a Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce event followed by a forum sponsored by the Goose Creek NAACP.
The candidates and Green Party candidate Eugene Platt compete May 7 in a special election to fill the vacant congressional seat once held by U.S. Sen. Tim Scott.
