WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- We are just one day away from what could be a key vote for Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley's gun control plan.

O'Malley seems to have a green thumb when it comes to getting what he wants for his state: same sex marriage passed.

He abolished the death penalty, but will he get what he wants when it comes to gun control?

The plan would:
• Ban the sale of assault type rifles
• Limit magazines to 10 bullets
• Tighten rules regarding the mentally ill buying guns, and
• Buyers would have to be fingerprinted to get a license

Opponents want changes to it, namely no fingerprinting. They may seek to redefine the types of weapons that are banned. Some want to keep semiautomatic rifles out of the ban.

O'Malley's bill passed the Senate on February 28th, and no decisions have been made since. On Friday, a House of Delegates joint committee will vote.

If it passes, the bill next goes to the full House floor. We could have a final decision by the time the General Assembly session ends on April 8.
