ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Alexandria Police say they have arrested a man in connection with the Beacon Hill Bandit bank robberies.

Police say 48-year-old Carlton Thorne was charged with robbery for the crime at the TD Bank in the 500 block of South Van Dorn Street. In that robbery, a man implied he had a weapon to a teller and demanded money. That man then received cash and fled in a white sedan on South Pickett Street. The man was described as in his 40s, 6'0" with short hair. The suspect was wearing a white tee shirt, jeans, a black fleece jacket and dark-colored shoes.

According to police, Fairfax County detectives have also obtained three warrants against Thorne, charging him with robberies there.

The FBI said that the Beacon Hill Bandit hit banks on these dates:

  • October 10, 2013 (attempted robbery)
  • October 4, 2013
  • September 9, 2013
  • July 29, 2013
  • March 23, 2013
  • October 24, 2012
  • March 9, 2010

Each time, authorities say the Beacon Hill Bandit would pretend to be on the phone and then demanded money from the teller. In one of the robberies he wore a hard hat. In another, he wore a Ninja Turtle hat. In the Oct. 10 incident, he reportedly wore a dark t-shirt over a gray long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, dark sneakers, tinted glasses and plain navy blue baseball cap. Then, he fled in an older model white Jeep Cherokee.

The FBI was offering a reward up to $5,000 for information that lead to his arrest and conviction.
