FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A Fredericksburg woman and her boyfriend are facing charges after the woman's 4-year-old son shot himself through the hand.
The Free Lance-Star reports police were called to Mary Washington Hospital around 2:20 p.m. Sunday after 29-year-old Melissa Pendleton got a neighbor to bring her and her children to the hospital after the incident. Police say nobody called 911.
The child is expected to recover.
Pendleton and her live-in boyfriend, 31-year-old Jemmell Conway, were charged with felony child neglect and a misdemeanor charge of allowing a child to have access to a firearm. Conway also was charged with possessing a firearm as a felon.
City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe says police were told the boy got ahold of the gun and shot himself. Police are investigating the incident.
