WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Metrorail system will be opening at 6:00 a.m. this Saturday, September 14 for the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon and Navy 5 Miler.
Here are some helpful travel tips from WMATA.
• The closest Metro stop to the start of the race is Smithsonian Station (Blue/Orange lines). Please note that due to scheduled reconstruction, buses will replace Blue and Yellow line trains this weekend between Braddock Road and Pentagon City. Customers traveling through this area should add up to 20 minutes of travel time. Also take note of scheduled work on the Red, Orange and Green lines.
• To avoid lines after the race, participants are encouraged to load enough value on their SmarTrip or paper fare card for their entire round trip. SmarTrip customers can load value to their card online at smartrip.wmata.com.
• If using a paper farecard, remember that a $1 surcharge is applied for each trip. Also, be sure to protect your farecard from moisture during the race.
