ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) - Arlington County Police say DNA evidence linked an Alexandria man to a 21-year-old unsolved case.
Police say 50-year-old Stevie Brinson of Alexandria was arrested on Thursday and charged in a 1992 rape-at-gunpoint case involving a 25-year-old college student in the 2000 block of N. Adams Street.
Police say a man knocked on the student's apartment door on January 28, 1992, claiming to be a maintenance worker. Once inside, the man pulled a handgun on the student and demanded money, according to police. Police say the man then forced the student into her bedroom where he bound her hands and proceeded to rape her at gunpoint. The man then took her cash and fled the scene, say police.
In June 2013, police say "evidence was resubmitted to the laboratory developing Brinson as the suspect." Arlington County officers with the help of City of Alexandria Police were able to take Brinson into custody at his workplace in Alexandria, say officials.
Police say Brinson is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
